In a rare and bold display of international solidarity, over 50 Muslim youths took to the streets of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Monday in open support of Iran amidst its intensifying conflict with Israel.

The demonstrators, visibly passionate, carried and waved Iranian flags as they marched peacefully through parts of the city. Placards bearing inscriptions such as “We Stand with Iran,” “Down with Zionist Aggression,” and “Free Palestine Now” were prominently displayed. Some protesters wore keffiyehs and chanted pro-Iran and anti-Israel slogans, drawing attention from passersby and sparking reactions on social media.
This development comes at a time when tensions between Iran and Israel have surged, raising global concern. The protest in Nasarawa is one of the first public expressions of Nigerian street-level support for Iran in the current conflict and has drawn mixed reactions from local observers.

While the gathering remained non-violent and orderly, security analysts say the symbolic waving of Iran’s national flag by Nigerian citizens in a public protest unrelated to local grievances is a strong indicator of how global conflicts are influencing domestic sentiments.
No official statement has been issued by Nasarawa State authorities or federal security agencies regarding the protest. It remains unclear whether the demonstration received prior authorization or whether any further action will be taken by local law enforcement.
Nigeria, a secular state with deep religious diversity, has traditionally maintained a non-aligned stance on the Middle East conflict. However, incidents like this underscore the growing impact of global religious and geopolitical narratives on Nigerian soil.
