President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today embark on a diplomatic mission spanning two continents as he departs Abuja for a state visit to Saint Lucia, followed by his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil.
This was disclosed in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, who emphasized that the two-nation visit is aimed at deepening Nigeria’s international relations and fostering greater South-South cooperation.
During his stop in Saint Lucia, President Tinubu is expected to engage with the island nation’s leadership on strategic partnerships in trade, culture, and bilateral relations. The visit marks a key effort by the Tinubu administration to strengthen Nigeria’s ties with Caribbean nations.
Upon concluding the state visit, the President will proceed to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will join other world leaders for the 17th BRICS Summit, a key global platform for emerging economies. Nigeria’s growing interest in BRICS, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, aligns with the country’s push to diversify alliances and seek new economic opportunities.
President Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials, including ministers and policy advisers, during both legs of the trip. The presidential delegation is expected to hold sideline meetings with global business leaders and foreign dignitaries in Brazil to discuss trade, investment, and economic development initiatives.
The visit comes at a time when Nigeria is looking to reposition itself on the global stage and attract increased foreign investment amid economic reforms at home.
