Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has publicly condemned what it describes as “unruly and violent behavior” by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, following a dramatic scene at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, after the lawmaker missed his scheduled flight to Abuja.

According to an official press release issued by Air Peace, the incident occurred early Wednesday morning when Senator Oshiomhole arrived at Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall) at approximately 06:10 AM for Flight P47120, which was scheduled to depart for Abuja at 06:30 AM. However, by the time he arrived, the boarding gate had already been closed, in accordance with the airline’s strict on-time departure policy.

This routine enforcement of airline protocol apparently sparked a dramatic reaction from the senator.

Upon being informed of the missed flight, the politician resorted to violence, physically assaulting our staff and forcefully barricading the terminal’s entrance, Air Peace said in the statement.

The release further alleges that Senator Oshiomhole went as far as sealing the terminal entrance and manning the access point himself, effectively blocking other passengers from entering the terminal. The disruption caused significant delays and impacted the travel plans of numerous passengers.

Air Peace has made it clear that its zero-tolerance policy for violence and operational interference applies to everyone, regardless of their social or political status. The airline emphasized that punctuality and passenger safety remain its top priorities.

No one, no matter how highly placed, has the right to obstruct airline operations or harass our staff, the airline stated.

This public condemnation comes at a time when Nigeria’s aviation industry is grappling with increasing pressure to maintain professionalism, security, and schedule integrity amid rising passenger volumes and VIP interference.

This incident has sparked renewed debate on VIP entitlement in Nigeria’s public spaces, particularly at airports.
