Adamawa State has taken a decisive step toward expanding its higher‑education landscape as the Technical Committee on the proposed College of Technology Innovations & Entrepreneurship Studies formally submitted its report to the state government this week.

The report, delivered to the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Comrade Umar Garba Pella, outlines the legal, academic and financial framework for creating a specialised institution that will “broaden access to technology‑driven and entrepreneurial education” across the state.

“I am happy to present the report of the Technical Committee on the establishment of Adamawa State College of Technology Innovations and Entrepreneurship Studies,”
Professor Ibrahim Danjuma, Committee Chair & Director‑General, State Debt Management Agency

Professor Danjuma praised the 12‑member panel for completing its assignment “within the stipulated time frame,” noting that the committee benchmarked curricula from leading polytechnics and tech colleges, mapped possible campuses in Yola and Mubi, and recommended a mixed funding model that leverages state subventions, private partnerships and research grants.

Commissioner Pella, receiving the document on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, applauded the team’s “dedication and commitment” and said the state would “study the report for further implementation.” Insiders at the Ministry say the next steps include an executive bill to the State House of Assembly, followed by site‑selection and a phased infrastructure rollout.

Why the college matters

Skills gap: Adamawa’s booming youth population over 60 percent under 30 needs market‑ready skills in software development, agritech, renewable energy and business incubation.

Digital‑first agenda: The project dovetails with Governor Fintiri’s Adamawa 2.0 strategy, which last year saw the signing of the Adamawa State Information Technology Development Agency (ASITDA) Bill to accelerate e‑governance and broadband rollout.

Entrepreneurship push: The state has already trained more than 800 residents in vocational skills this year through public‑private ventures with the Creative African Empowerment Initiative.

What to expect

Programmes: National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) tracks in Data Analytics, AI & Robotics, Renewable‑Energy Technology, SME Finance, and Venture Creation.

Incubation hub: A proposed “Innovation Garage” offering seed funding and mentorship in partnership with local banks and the American University of Nigeria.

Timeline: If the Assembly gives quick assent, officials aim to admit the pioneer class by September 2026.

Stakeholders across the North‑East, from agribusiness cooperatives to fintech start‑ups, have welcomed the move. “A college focused on innovation and entrepreneurship will be a game‑changer for Adamawa and the region,” said tech‑hub operator Maryam Bappah in an interview.

As Governor Fintiri reviews the committee’s recommendations, educators and entrepreneurs alike are watching closely seeing in the proposed college a catalyst for jobs, digital inclusion and sustainable economic growth in Nigeria’s North‑East.
