In a groundbreaking move set to revolutionize Nigeria’s fuel distribution network, the Dangote Group has announced plans to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tankers nationwide to deliver petrol and diesel with free transport for consumers. The initiative, aimed at easing fuel supply challenges and reducing costs, will be complemented by a credit incentive program kicking off August 15.
The Dangote Group, led by Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, is leveraging its newly operational 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery to disrupt Nigeria’s fuel market. The refinery, which began production earlier this year, is expected to significantly reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
With the introduction of 4,000 CNG-powered tankers, Dangote aims to:
✔ Ensure faster, more efficient fuel distribution across Nigeria.
✔ Cut transportation costs by offering free delivery of petrol and diesel.
✔ Promote cleaner energy by utilizing CNG, which is more environmentally friendly than traditional diesel trucks.
Starting August 15, the company will roll out a credit incentive scheme designed to support marketers and consumers. Details include:
🔹 Extended payment windows for bulk buyers.
🔹 Discounted rates for early adopters of the CNG distribution model.
🔹 Special financing options for small-scale fuel retailers.
Energy analysts predict that Dangote’s move could stabilize fuel prices, reduce scarcity, and create thousands of jobs in logistics and retail. The shift to CNG tankers also aligns with the Federal Government’s push for cleaner energy alternatives.
“This is a major step toward energy independence,” said an industry expert. “Dangote is not just supplying fuel; he’s reshaping the entire supply chain.”
With the refinery operating at full capacity and the new distribution model set to launch, Nigeria’s fuel market could see lower prices, reduced queues, and a more reliable supply in the coming months.
